Bowmount motor installed on Transom (?)

If I had a openbow boat that really had no flat spots on the bow, could a bowmount trolling motor be mounted on the swim step/platform on the transom? I'm thinking specifically about the motorguide with the wireless control - wondering if I could mount it on the stern and still control it with the wireless control?

I realize that even if it worked, it wouldn't be ideal. Just wondering what options exist...

Thanks for any input!

It should work as long as its able to be secured so it does not deploy while you are driving. I have the same problem or similar to yours. I am tossing around the idea of the engine mounted Minn Kota.

My concerns would be having a place to retract and lock, and the plate left to walk on. Have you looked into mounting an aux motor bracket and using a transom type? Your hull might not allow that either, but its worth a look.

motor guide has a great cover plate for the mounting bracket, when the motor is off, and a super lock down system.

Agree, but I am having difficulty in visualizing how it would be mounted for deployment and retraction on a swim platform. The plate/cover will just be a pain when stubbing your toe, when getting in and out, swiming, water toys, etc.

Its hard to say without seeing a picture of the particular swim platform, but it would seem that an aux bracket and a transom trolling motor would be much better, even if you had to fabricate your own bracket.

If your just trolling out in open water then the transom mount may work Ok but if your working a shore line for bass the only place to consider is up front.

Up front you can control the boat so much better. I would try to make a front mount even if you need to make it removable for when you do not want the trolling motor in the way.
