Hey guys and gals,

I just sold my bayliner and am going to be upgrading this winter. I am looking a lot at early 2000's Tige and some older (92 and newer Supras). The goal is to get an inboard boat to surf with. A couple of questions i had, I tried to search but not much luck of definitive answers, so here goes. All to do with inboard boats like described above.

Are all inboards closed cooling? Or do they still pull raw water from somewhere?

Is there much difference in the engine noise from an i/o to an inboard?

I know the details on what to look for when looking at used boats, but is there anything specific to inboard that I should be looking for?

Thanks for the help,
Jason

If you are talking about I/O or sterndrives, no, not all are closed cooling, some are raw water cooled. Regardless or type of system, they all need to draw water from the lake, river, sea to keep cool.

The general consensus is that I/O's are quieter than outboards.

I've never seen such stupid question's....
Really,I've seen quiet inboards, and quiet i/o's.And just the opposite. Mostly i/o's are generally quiet,it depends on the insulation in the engine room, and a bunch of other factors. If possible, maybe check with a marina,or other owners of various models and find out what ya prefer. All in all, outboards are noisy, very few are quiet, the newer ones came a long way to quieter but still don't match an enclosed motor.
