I'm rebuilding my yamaha 50esd-jd While doing so I thought about replacing the reeds with the Boyesen power reeds. I was wondering if there were any disadvantages to these, such as durability and life of these reeds compared to stock. I was also wondering if you would have to put bigger jets in the carburetor and if there were any other modifications that would be necessary?

Thanks,
Anthony

Re: Boyesen power reeds?

I was looking at these as well but decided to buy a new motor instead. A couple of people in the Force/ chrysler section have used them. One had checked his after 250 hours and said they looked like new. They seemed to think the reeds were prone to cracking if the motor backfires. Another person was impressed with how smooth the engine idled with the reeds.

As I say I have not tried them myself but this is what I found out about them when looking. The other attractive thing about them is the price.
