i've read the various posts n these reeds and understand composite vs stainless. also unerstand this will be an across the board change.

comments have been essentially "great power but shorter life".

can anyone quantify, ie how many more rpm or how much more hp at top rpm?

thanks for the discussion!

Re: Boyesen Reeds

I have used and sold Boyesen reeds for longer than I care to think about. The additional power you get depends on what your motor is doing now. IE -- if you have a cross flow OMC that is turning 6200 to 6400 RPM the Boyesen reeds will give you another few hundred RPM. The stock cross flow SS reeds start to flutter about then and are what limits the RPM (assuming there is no rev limiter in the pack). If your top RPM is only 5000, you wont see much. Regardless, you will notice a much smoother transition between RPM ranges.

About the only thing that kills the Boyesen reeds is if the motor "spits" at an idle. When the motor "spits" fire travels through the front of the motor and burns the reed tips. I have a set in my 225 that are probably 4 or 5 years old. The ones in my last race motor lasted longer than the pistons. LOL!

What motor do you have and what kind of set up?

Good luck!
