Forgive me if this is a dumb question. I have some repairs to do to my trailer...new rollers and while im at it I want to paint it. How would I get the boat off the trailer in my yard? Any ideas? Pictures? I assume I have to make some kind of brace system? Thanks for the help for a newbie.

Re: braces?

It is a 16 ft Silverline with an outboard. I have seen people store their boats on blocks before I just cant figure the process to get get there..lol

Re: braces?

I lifted my 29' Wellcraft Scarab Sport off the trailer using boat stands. They are (typical) a steel stand with a single shaft coming out of it with either a flat pad or a v-shaped pad. The pad is attached to a threaded shaft (exact same thing on the leveling legs of scaffold) that you turn the bold on, raising the pad, and thus the boat. IT's pretty easy to do if you have the stands. Otherwise, you can use a car jack (have had to do that) of appropriate rating. Just make certain to put a good block of wood between the jack and your boat.

You'll have to build up a "stand" (blocks) under it. Basically, you "walk" the boat off the trailer. But them as far in front of your cross members as possible, lift the boat, move the trailer, set it back down, repeat....

Re: braces?

If you've got 4 friends and some srcap 2x4's and scrap carpet I would do this.

1st Build a Stand for your motor. See the Stickys at the beginning of the forum on how to do this.

Have your friends help you remove and set the motor on the stand. Should weigh no more than 200 lbs. Two guys can handle it. My brother and I did on a 70 hp Evinrude with no problem.

2nd build a couple of carpeted stands that conform to the bottom of the stern and the bow of your boat that are about 4 inches shorter that the current height of the boat as it sits on the trailer. Tilt the trailer and let the boat slide back about a foot. Set the trailer back level. set the stand under the hull and then shim under it till it has weight on it. Put the trailer forward till you get to the point to set the next stand under neath and shim it up. Voila' It's off the trailer.

Or you could go to a Rent-All place and rent a Cherry Picker for 1/2 a day and use some straps to lift her off and set her on the stands.

I'm just sayin...:D

Re: braces?

STOP no need to remove the motor at all.

Refer to this post http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=388804&page=3 and look at the last photos...... all done by one person.

Slide the boat back a about a foot on your trailer. Remove the coupler and lower the trailer tongue all the way down. This will leave the stern raised up. Build blocking under the outside corner's (Andy used tires)....... Now re-attach the trailer to the car/truck ....... as you lifted the tongue with the jack the rear of the boat is now supported by the blocking. You can slowly move the trailer out from under the boat until you get past the halfway point. Stop there ;)

Now the the boat is just more then half off the trailer block the keel and maybe a set of side supports.

Slowly move the trailer out further and place another support towards the bow.

Once it is clear you have a boat free trailer...... make your repairs, paint and then re-trailer the boat.

Re-trailering is even easier. Back up the trailer to the boat..... hook the winch strap/cable and back up..... tighten the winch and back up and repeat until you hit the halfway point. You have a choice to winch on or continue the routine.

It can all be accomplished with you alone (takes time) or get a friend involved.

Another good reference post http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=263769&highlight=removing+boat+from+trailer

Re: braces?

I did it on my own with my 21' using the method Bob_VT described. Its tedious but the only way to do it alone without heavy equiptment. I also built my own adjustable stands using 4x4s standing on end and 2x4s as a cross shaped base and also to brace the 4x4. I drilled a hole in the center of the 4x4 and drove a 12" 5/8" threaded rod down about 4". Then threw on a big heavy washer and nut. Then a small section of 4x4 was also drilled and driven down into the rod preceeded by another washer and nut. Materials were about $50 to make 4 stands.
