I have a big tow vehicle and the boat only weighs a couple of thousand pounds or so- because of that working trailer brakes are not needed!

At least this guy may have thought so: http://www.craigslist.org/about/best/dsm/763203032.html

Sorry to get on my soap box but as I read through many posts here in the towing forum, I see a lot of discussion about what this or that truck can or cannot pull but the stopping part is often neglected. Please do everyone you share the road with a favor and ensure that your trailer brakes and lights are operating properly!

On the lighter side,
he won't need a trailer anymore

Obviously didn't feel the need for stern tie downs and a bow eye safety chain either.

My kids used to think I was crazy for insisting on tying down the boat. "It's heavy, where's it gonna go." I got from them.

Till the ball hitch broke, and we dug up 150 feet of tar road with the tongue.

Coupla cosmetic dents in the boat, winch tower folded over a bit, and the trailer ball, of course. Had things good enough to launch the boat within an hour. Total damage, ten bucks for a ball, and a coupla hours straightening out the winch tower.
