Brakes Locked on Trailer

Hey. Last week I was towing boat to lake and car cut me off and when I slammed on brakes the trailers driver side surge brake locked up. I was able to get it back to my sisters house but it is still locked. In reverse it spins freely but in forward in drags until the speed increases then it turns but you can tell it is being forced.

Can I just back the spring adjustment nut off and unlock it so I can get it to a shop to repair it? The boat is in Alabama and I would really like to get it home to Florida so I can do some fishing this weekend.

Any suggestions?
