Brand new 2001 15 hp. Merc - price?

I just found a brand new (never been started) 15 hp Merc (2 stroke). It's a long shaft, and it simply has never sold because of that. The asking price is $1799. I think I can get it a bit lower. Do you think this is a fair price? Please let me know asap. Thanks.

Perhaps if I mention my concerns, a post will be drawn.<br /><br />The price isn't bad, but for a NEW motor, the moment I buy and use it, I have a 3 year old used motor. If I choose to sell say in two years, I'll get more money out of a two year old motor rather than a five. <br /><br />Another concern: what is the potential pitfall of a motor sitting in a showroom for 3 years without being started? <br /><br />Thanks for the responses.

Newer is always better. No, it should be fine if it's been in the showroom.
