Hi All,

I have the opportunity to buy a brand new 2008 Evinrude Etec 90hp.

Should I be concerned that the motor has been sitting for that long? I don't have the VIN so I cant look up potential recall info but was looking for some input on the 2 year thing.

Thanks!

Rob

Has the mtr ever been run or is it the "out of box" type of thing?

Have there been significant improvements in the last 2-3 years?

Thanks Rob!

most of the outboard companies have quit putting a model year code on the motors...now you may buy a 2 year old motor that is registered as current year when you buy it..it is a way to stop them from having to drop prices to sell left over motors..Mercury started a long time ago and yammy started in 08..not sure whats up with BRP...but if you can get a deal on the motor it will probably do you well

You'll probably get a five year BRP warranty. No reason to worry. It's a good motor.

I bought a "new" in box Mercury outboard for my sailboat last year at Bass Pro Shops (Merc dealer). It was made in 2007, and I bought it in February 2010. Since it was sold as new, I got the full warranty. Even though it was a three year old motor in the box, it fired up and ran in 2 pulls on it's first start, and still runs perfectly fine.

I'm pretty certain yours will be alright.

The best thing to do with this mtr as it's never been run is take it to a BRP dlr and let them set it up for you. There are procedures you have to do as oil priming and ect when first run. They can also tell you about any up-dates.

At minimum, if you rig it, a dealer MUST inspect and check your work prior to any running or you'll void the warranty. As Boobie suggests, it's probably best to have a dealer rig it.
