Brand New 40 hp Etec Issue

I just had a brand new (2008) Etec installed on my 13' Boston Whaler and took it out for the first time a couple weeks back to do some fishing. While fishing the motor would occasionally rev up a little and then back off, almost die and then catch itself and continue trolling. Could this be a side-effect of the extra oil that the motor is receiving during it's break-in periord? Is it not advised to start trolling right out of the box with these things? I thought there was no break-in period. Any insight would be helpful...it's on warranty for 3 years so I'm not too worried about it, but I'd like to know if I need to take it in.

is this problem only at idle


and id say dont do anything to it. put u know of course brp oil only!! during break-in and call the dealer and make a time to come

If this surging at idle continues, then there may be fuel getting into the motor that shouldn't. An internally leaking fuel pump, flooding vapor cannister, or possibly an injector could cause the same symptoms. Take it to your dealer for checkout. It could also only be a throttle cable adjustment.

Ya, only at idle. Runs great at all other rpm ranges. I should also note that the problem got less severe and less often as the day went on.

you have a warranty, do not void it, by tinkering. take it to the dealer.

Absolutely. Use the warranty and do not let up till you are satisfied with the motor.

It should run smooth right out of the box. You do not get the double oiling for break in until you get abive 2000 RPM's.

The E-tec is truely a work of art.

Like everyone said, it is silly to even touch it since it is under warranty.

Seahorse would be the expert here....but may I add the possibility of a faulty throttle position sensor?
