I am breaking in my new searay 180 and I am finding the temp gauge reads 190F. The manual says the t-stat will open at 160F. I can touch the rocker cover for three or four seconds without pain, so I figure the temp is nearer to 160 than 190. Do anyone have a similar experience?? Thanks for your help. :)

You don't say if it's fresh water cooled or raw water cooled. I'm sure there will be dis-agreement to this statement , but I think 190 is a little warm, not over-heating, but a little warm, especially on a raw water system, given how cold our water stays.I'm sure you'll get more feedback.

J., it is raw water cooled and the temp of the lake that day was a bitter 61F.
Tommays, I contacted the seller and he said there is a "bulletin" from SeaRay about temp guages. Has anyone seen such a bulletin???

i havnt heard about a bulletin but when i put the 1st 1.5 hours on my rebuilt 3.0 it started running alittle warmer then 160 deg's. After its 1st 1.5 hours it now runs about 150 degress with water temps around 80. Mine did start creeaping toward 190 but i shut her down and let her cool for 40 mins each time i did that . Now i can run the motor for a while and place hand on the intake/exhuast log for an hour with no pain.

later,

Big-E

Sorry Reb, I was thinking salt water, I would think Rosario Straight is just as cold as Puget Sound. I haven't seen or heard of any bulletins. Anyway bulletin or no bulletin, if it's a bad guage the guy you bought it from should fix it.J
