Brass impellor?

I have this Viking motor, year unknown, hp unknown. Probably a 3-5hp. Anyways, I am doing a rebuild on it cause it needs it. Hasn't ran in years. Well, after taking lower unit off, I found that it had a brass or copper impellor. I'm impressed. Never have to worry about it melting.
And the water intake is opposite side of the prop. Although I am not too sure that is a good idea as it can easily get clogged up.
Can anyone tell me why they don't make aluminum, copper, or brass impellors no a days?
I think this is such a good idea
Lastly...I have posted before, this same motor, to find out what year and hp and where I can get parts, if any.
Here's what I know: on top right side of motor it says 01930. Bottom left side it says 101931.
Does anyone know where/what site I can go on to the net to get parts. I think this motor might just have a chance after I am through with it(if I can get parts that is).
Thanks in advance. :D

Re: Brass impellor?

Howdy, Bro.

The metal sliding vane water pumps showed up on several engines in the late 40s and 50s. They are very efficient but expensive to make and expensive to replace. They also use more power at high speed than the rubber impeller pumps because they are positive displacement pumps at all speeds.

The rubber impeller pumps act as positive displacement pumps at low speed but become centrifical pumps at higher speed using less power but still moving adequate amounts of cooling water.

Sorry I can't help with your engine. Did you try the links you got from your first post?

Good luck. :)

Re: Brass impellor?

Thanks JB.
I thought the brass impellor was a cool idea. But what do you mean they use more power? Would that mean they take more power away from your motor, meaning less hp?
I never got any posts from my last post on this viking ob I have, but I did find out that it is made by Eatons, so that is a start.
This is a great site :D
