Bravo 1 oil leak

Folks i need some help figuring out an oil leak on a bravo 1 drive that was recently replaced. Only the lower was replaced due to no thrust washer placed by the previous owner and it ate away at the housing. After getting a hold of a used bravo 1 lower housing i changed the o ring in the water intake and installed. I was filling with gear oil and after being full and dripping at the top air vent i closed it and oil started coming out of the water intake passages. What could be the cause as i am not familiar with bravo drives. Thanks.

OK, the drive is installed and you assume its leaking from the water inlet, or you removed the drive and verified its leak from the water inlet?

If this is an assumption, then I would think the leak is in the shift shaft

Lower unit was installed. As i was done filling with gear oil i saw it come out of the raw water pick up holes.

Drain the lube and drop the lower.

Just thought of another issue. If you have an older lower something are not compatible. Drop your lower and check

Let's say for the sake of reason, since i saw my old lower and it has the small oil hole in the water passage. That the one i installed did not have the hole (which i will check tomorrow) what can i do to make them both compatible? Without having to go out and buy another lower.

There is nothing you can do to change the housing that I'm aware of

What @alldodge said . . .

Something is messed up. You could take the drive off drain the oil and do a pressure test (5-10 psi) . . . of course, I would expect it not to hold any pressure at all, since it is leaking.

Alldodge or anyone familiar with the subject, will this one work. I see that it has the place. The left pic is of the lower that i currently have and on the right the potential buy. Please kindly advise. Thanks in advance.

No, the oil hole has to be in the same place. You have new style so just look the the oil hole inside the large o ring on the water jacket
