I just installed a 454 and Bravo 1 drive into my boat. I installed a new cable from the helm to the engine. I also replaced teh detent inside the upper housing. The problem that I am having is that I can adjust the cable to allow me to shift from Neutral to forward but I don't get any reverse. I can also adjust the cable so I get reverse adn neutral but im not getting forward. If I unhook the cable from the riser to the outdrive I am able to shift it by hand in all gears. It is drving me crazy. Its like there isnt enough throw in the cable to go from reverse to forward. Any suggestions. Thanks for any help.

Did you assemble the cable properly? Correct threading of the end tube, etc.
Sounds as you may have used the wrong holes in the control box. Usually there are 3 or 4 sets of holes for different outdrives/brands.
Other then that was your drive fully in forward gear when assembled to upper? Shift shaft in proper position?

I think you should edit out the Carb issue and start a seperate thread. Helps with search and getting replies mixed up.

This is an Alpha issue. Does not apply to a Bravo.

Re: Bravo 1 Shift Problems

Yea, I am familliar with the alpha but not this bravo. There isn't a lot there to be causing my problem. There are three different holes on the shifter, I installed in the hole further away from the pivot to create more movement in the cable but it doesnt do it. Could it be a bad lower cable? It seem s to be fine if the cable is removed from the bracket and operated by hand.
