Any idea what I should use to re-seal the outdrive to the gimball/u-joint bellows. It leaked and that is why I am replacing the bearing and U-joints!! :( :(
Apparently it just relies on a squash fit to the bellows ( no gasket). Anybody help?

are you installing a new gimbal bellows as well?
I use nothing on a new one and perfect seal on the rubber of a used one.

the bellows looked good. does perfect seal set up like an adhesive or does it stay pliable.

its rather pliable. make sure the bellows has been installed correctly. to many folks dont get it seated properly and the retaining ring wont fit right.
I would replace it but I am not there to see it. every 3 years is a good schedule on them.

I would never use a bellows that had water in it. The water got in somewere, and the bellows is about the only place it can be. Just because you can't see the hole isn't a good enough reason form me, replace it.
Did you replace the ujoints? They get water in them also.
How about the input shaft yoke in the drive, is it rusty and about to grind the seal away so you loose all your gear lube?

shaft and yolk look good. U-joints look and feel good but we are changing them anyway. Mercury told us that these bellows have been known to leak at 12 and 6 o-clock and that is where we should put a dab of a sealent. maybe I should change the bellows anyway??
