I have a 1991 42ft Well Craft Scarab with I/O Mercruiser 502's and Bravo I's. Last weekend I went out on the lake and everything was working fine, beached the boat, went to leave both motors and outdrives are working fine and then the starboard motor just reved up and wasn't spinning the prop.

I have looked at the out drive and have tried to figure out what is going on any help will be appreciated. This is what I have found.

Lower shift cable is shifting correctly, verified by removing plate at outdrive and watching it turn and lifting the clutch or pushing it down depending on forward or reverse.

If I spin the prop in forward by hand the driveshaft at the back of the motor spins, does the same thing in reverse.

I did not find any water in the oil when I checked it. All of the shift cables are brand new.

Any help will be appreciated. I will look up the year of the Bravo I's when I get back to the boat this evening.

The Coupler, which is bolted to the Flywheel is Stripped,+ You need a New 1....

That interesting to know that you can do that when the coupler has failed.

I would have thought that it still be pretty hard to turn it.

You will be removing that engine to replace the coupler.
