Had the Rinker out on Saturday, and I noticed that the new drives seem to have a little more gear whine than the old ones. The upper units are the same, only the lowers have been changed. Its not an alarming sound, just a gears whirring sort of noise. Is that normal? I've been listening to this boat for 7 years now, and this is a new sound to me, but its also the first year with these drives.

Never noticed any noise at all coming from my B3. Didn't notice any from my Pre-Alpha or Alpha's either.

I think I know what sound you are hearing, I think it is normal, That is if you are running it out of the water and on the trailer.

My alpha made a sound like that when new, the dealer had to file front edge of the lower housing to get ride of the sound. The said it caused a slight cavitation that made it whine. Never did it after.
