My Bravo III outdrive will not engage forward gear when engine is running. When i stop the engine, forward gear engages (tested by turning the props by hand). Reverse and neutral works in both cases.
What can be wrong?

Probably need to replace the lower shift cable, but might also be adjustment.

I removed the wire from the linkage and tested it by hand. Forward gear will not engage when wire is fully compressed. Tryed several times.
Today i opened the drive and the linkage/shift fork. It seems that the cone clutch will not "fall down" in position when the arm is fully engaged. Is it possible the shift fork wear out? Is it possible that the cone clutch is so worn that it wont fall in to position?

Only way for cone clutch to be worn is from bad shift cable and low fluid for a really long time....as in years

Like any clutch it wears a little bit every time it's engaged. Pull the clutch out and have a look/see. You'll notice the sharp edges are worn flat

Agree, need to pull the drive and have a look.

Need to remember that a Bravo shifts when the input drive shaft is turning. Doing it only with the shift cable, and the motor is not running, it may not shift.

It can still be the cable, your pushing the cable in, but don't know what is happening on the shift fork. Pull drive, then use needle nose pliers to shift the clutch while turning the drive shaft by hand counter clockwise facing the drive shaft.

If it doesn't shift, drain the lube then remove the rear cover and look at the shift fork.
