I ordered the tool it will be three days, the boat is done other than the shift cable. is there a way to set up a new cable with out the tool? I would imagine all I would need is the dimensions of the tool or the space between the two points to set it up right ? An advice or am I stuck waiting?

They are killing it on cobia and wahoo here right now...

Make sure the shifter is in neutral. Ensure that there's 7/8" of cable between the face of the bell housing and the front edge of the ball on the end of the cable and keep the cable immobilized. Adjust the other end of the cable so that it loosely drops into place on the engine. That's it, if memory serves.

I got it adjusted, one question. I know with an alpha you cant check shifting outside the water, because of the shift interupt system. IS there any problem with checking the shift on a bravo outside the water?

The bravo uses a very different shifting mechanism that the alpha and it relies on the the movement of the spinning gears to draw the cone clutch into place when you shift. It really needs to be running or you may bend/wear the linkage hardware.
