I have an 03 merc bravo 3. Recently began havin a problem shifting forward, reverse works great. I have the books, and have tried adjusting shift cable, per the service manual. No matter which way or how far i adjust the cable barrel, there is no change. The props turn, but not enuf to move boat. Sometimes, after a few seconds, it goes into gear. Other times i have to give a little throttle, then it slams into gear, which we all know is not good! Less than 2 yrs ago, the clutch cone and all other parts in that area had to be replaced, under warranty, because the dealership said the parts were shimmed wrong from the factory. It seemed fine ever since the repair, except wen put into forward, it was smooth and quiet, in otherwords, no clunk! Even if i shifted to slow, the gears wouldnt grind? I thought since the dealer told me it was wrong from the factory, that it never was supposed to clunk into gear! Am I wrong? Can anyone help? I need help? Thanks!!! Confused

Has it been 2 years since the gear lube was changed? Because low/incorrect/burnt gear lube would do that.

Top of the morning to ya Bondo

Re: Bravo3 shift problems

Gearlube changed every year!!! Ive stumped every mechanic so far with this shifting problem. So any of you brainiacs think u got this one pegged, your way off! My next step is mercruiser product support. So far, the guy havin the paint chip problem sounds like the closest diagnosis so far?? This cant be the unsolvable problem,,,can it? Peace!
