Break in oil

I am gathering supplies for the new engine. Volvo Penta break in instructions just says change the break in oil after 20 hours i believe, but no mention of what that break in oil is. I am thinking a good non synthetic SAE 30 or 40 oil would be good for the first 20 hours then switch to the synthetic. It’s been many years since a broke in a new engine and back then it was a flat tappet lifter. With the Vortec i don’t think i need special break in oils. Looking for recommendations here.
Thanks, you guys are always helpful.

My 2002 VP 5.7 came from the Factory with Synthetic Oil. I don't think the Rings ever seated properly, as at 80 I pulled the plugs and they were oily. At 100 hr(2 years) the engine sounded like it had Mechanical Lifters. Long Story short, Remote Oil Filter had Lines reversed and the Check Valve in the Filter worked as did the Pressure valve that allowed oil to Bypass a Plugged Filter. Engine was Pooched.
I broke the replacement Engine using Dinosaur Oil and the Rings Seated well and the Plugs are still dry 16 yrs later.

Royal Purple now offers an Break-in Oil.

I was now thinking Rotella T1 SAE40. on sale for $15.99 a gallon. I can change twice during break in for under $50.

I just replaced my engine last year. I used/still using Rotella 15-40 non synthetic. My engine manufacturer suggested 100 hours on non synthetic before going to synthetic. I`m still under the 100 hours. I will change to synthetic after this year. I did an initial break in change at 20 hours.
