Re: break in procedures 90 hp johnson

Is this a new motor or rebuilt?? The 50:1 mixture is still used during break in. Im unsure of your exact year if rebuilt, since im assuming if it was brand new you would have the owners manual for it. For first 5 to 10 minutes, operate engine at idle. For remainder of first hour, do not operate engine over 3000 rpm or one half throttle approx. During the second hour, bring boat into planing attitude and reduce power to 4000 rpm or three quarter throttle approx. while maintaining planing attitude. At intervals during the second hour, apply full power for periods of one to two minutes, returning throttle to original setting (4000 rpm three quarter throttle) for a cooling period. Avoid continuous full throttle operation for an extended period during the next 8 hours. Dhadley is very knowledgeable on the rebuilt motors. Good luck.

are you still using the oil mixer, if so use it, and premix your first tank of fuel 50-1, you need the extra oil. the oil mixer does not know the motor is being broken in. if not using the oil mixer, mix 25-1.
