Hi fellas.Have just had powerhead apart for one new piston all new rings on other five and honing (89 225 jonno)have takin it for two long runs (40 nm offshore)and is running great. The mechanic said to run it on pre mix and vro for ten hours then cut out the pre mix.Mtor seems fine running on both oils, only a little smokey on start up.My questions are is this the correct method for break in and if I was to run it always in future on both mixes will this cause damge to motor/carbs.My line of thinking is that its sort of an insurance policy should the vro fail.

Re: Break-n time

Listen to your wrench fitzms. After the breakin, just go to the VRO. Running premix with the VRO doubles the oil use and should only be used for the break in period. Continued use of premix along with the VRO will cause the engine to carbon up and probably give you the same headaches you just got rid of.
