Breaker issue!

Hey guys,
First post but I've been watching these forums for quite a while. Looks like there's a ton of knowledgable people on here that might be able to help me out.

Anyway, I just bought an '89 Ranger Comanche 363V Bassmasters Classic Edition with a Johnson GT150 (original '89) on it. We have got it out a couple times and had an issue both times.

The first time, the shifter cable broke, but that has been fixed since.

We got it out the second time, ran it almost top speed around 53 MPH for a little over a mile then did a couple slower turns and things like that. Then, we had to idle around a lot because we were on relatively small water. We idled for 45 minutes to an hour then got it back up to 48 MPH before it died. The breaker right inside the hatch to the battery compartment had popped. Did it again at 43 MPH.

I should mention two things. The spark plugs are new, but are the same part number as in the Johnson book. The second thing is that I just put in a new battery and I'm only 99% sure I got all the wires back on the correct terminals. Everything electrical is working fine, so I'm assuming that's not the issue.

So, is the breaker just in need of being replaced or do I have a larger issue?
I really hope somebody can help quickly because I'm leaving Thursday for a tournament through Sunday.

possibly a bad recifier. over charging the battery, the motor runs of it's self, not the battery, so the motor should not be drawing power from the battery when running. this really is just a guess.

Re: Breaker issue!

Thank you for the reply.

I ended up just shoving a 20amp fuse in place of the breaker, and the fuse never popped. This at least got me through the tournament, so I was happy.

Since then, the proper breakers have come in, and have been installed. We didn't test the old breaker, but evidently it just wasn't able to carry a 20amp load.
