I was just wondering if anyone has ever pulled their 4stroke outboard out of the box or marina and used synthetic oil from the very first second the motor was fired up and how does it run today?I know they say just like cars to break in the engine with conventional oil then use synthetic oil if u are going to go that route but i know alot of cars are coming from the factory today with synthetic oil in them for breakin now.

Just wondering how the motor performs and if u have had any problems out of the norm? Thanks for all the responses,i'm sure someone has to have done this so tell me how it works.

[P.S NO OIL WARS PLEASE JUST WANT TO HEAR IF IT WORKS AND THAT THERE IS NO PROBLEMS WITH USING SYNTHETIC TO BREAK A ENGINE IN,THANKS].:D

i never tried or will ever try... i think if the cars come out of the factory with synthetic in them i'm sure its specially formulated for break in periods....

i dont recommend using synthetic to break in your motor...

Marcortez that is exactly the oil i am using for my breakin session good pick u must of read my mind.I really like royal purple they are one of the best companies out there as amsoil is and i am really liking the new castrol edge in my car it is amazing stuff.I was just wondering if anyone used synthetic right out of the gate with no hours on there motor.

So far no responses to it though so i guess that means no on breaking it in with synthetic.

Re: Breaking your outboard in with synthetic oil.

Why do so many people use it then if it is not good for it?Like i also mentioned in the other thread why would yamaha make a full synthetic if their is no advantage?I see what you are saying that it may get quite expensive to.I also thought you were suppose to change the oil every 100hrs also. You suggest every 50hrs instead?I guess you can't over do it right?I'm a very anal person when it comes to maintenance in my stuff no matter what it is.So i will do every 25hs if that is better. Also i have seen a ton of aftermarket oil filters will fit the merc, should i just stay with a merc filter or is there a better filter out there?I'm just very curious if the synthetic oil harms the motor more then it helps it why would yamaha make a synthetic oil? This has got me very curious.

At the risk of unnecessarily extending this thread, is that a personal opinion or do you have some factual basis for such a statement ...
