I have a 1987 dt 175 suzuki,my question is ,behind the black carb cover should their be an air breather. <br /> THANKS JOHN

Define air breather. The black air box is there simply as an intake silencer. Air enters the carbs through holes on the back or sides of the silencer.

Correct; outboards don't have air filters, there's little dust on the water, just silencers for intake noise.

Sorry to open up an old topic.....but just looking through some old postings here.....what kind of noise does this make? I never knew that black box was a silencer?

Carburettors make an awful hissing sound. Run it without the black box (on muffs of course) and see.
