I bought a mirrocraft aluminum boat with a briggs and stratton outboard motor on it. The guy I bought it from said it was a 2 stroke but when I looked up numbers off the motor there is no reference to a 2 stroke motor only 4 stroke does anyone know if they ever made a 2 stoke outboard???

The only Briggs I know of is a 5 hp 4 stroke. Do a search for Briggs and Stratton outboard motors.
Are there no instructions on the motor?

It's your typical lawn mower motor, and yes it's a 4 stroke.

It's a Briggs L-head lawn mower engine on an outboard gear housing

Won't hurt it. The only difference in daily operation is 2 stroke oil in the gas with a little smoke.

An oil change isn't a bad idea since it is a 4 stroke.

i had significant build up of carbon inside the combustion chamber on one from a guy who did that. Only reason I mentioned it. I guess from the oil burning off. I cleaned the head and piston top and put it back together it ran like a top.:D
