Briggs and Stratton Outboard Repair Ontario?

I have a Briggs and Stratton 5hp outboard that won't start. I turns over fine. I took out the spark plug and it seems to have oil on it. I put a tablespoon of gas in the spark hole and the engine started briefly and spit out lots of smoke. I'm guess the movers set it down improperly and there's oil in the cylinder. I have no repair skills. Does anyone know of a Briggs and Stratton service place in south western Ontario canada that has outboard motor repair experience? I imagine it just needs to be cleaned out with kerosene or something.

I would just take the spark plug out and give it several pulls or until you don't see any oil mist coming out. Clean the plug or put a new one in, check you oil level and add if needed. It should start up and be ok. It may smoke a little for twenty or thirty seconds and then be clean. If it doesn't start check the plug again. If it is oily repeat the sequence. If you seem to still be getting an excesive amount of oil out of the cylinder than it may be time to think about professional servicing.

Thanks,
When you say repeat the sequence, does that include putting a bit of gas in the spark plug hole and starting again? Right now I pulled a bunch of times and it won't start, seems like the oil is preventing it from sparking.

I would not put gas in the spark plug hole. Once it is trying to fire on a clean plug it should continue to run if it is getting gss through the carb. Excess gas in the cylinder will wash down any lube left for the rings. Two or three times of clearing the oil out and cleaning the spark plug after each try should fire it up. If the plug is coming out clean and it still won't fire you may have another problem than oil in the cylinder.

if you store it with the plug down then the cylinder all get full of sump oil ..you need the plug out and pull it over 20 -30 times ...then a little gas in the plug hole and pull it over and over again ..put the plug in and.then it should go ....next time put it down with the plug upwards

Guess I'm a little late getting this up.
That is a 4 stroke motor so there should be oil in the base like a car.
Probably a dip stick or observation port for checking the level. Gas tank with plenty of gas.
Be sure the gas line connector is connected right.vent in cap open.Squeeze the primer bulb till firm if you listen as you squeeze you may hear the gas go into the carb.Pull the choke
and crank.
