Re: bright lites

I haven't used the product you mentioned, but have experienced poor headlights on one of my previous vehicles. The older Dodge Caravans are infamous for poor visibility even as a new vehicle. Pitted/fogged lenses make it near impossible to see at night. I performed the following sequences:

I started wet sanding with 800 grit to remove all deep pitting, and to even out the lense. When that was done they looked terrible, but consistently terrible all over. With this stage it is important to sand deep enough to remove the deep scratches and pitts.

Next I used 1000 grit, wetting constantly with spray bottle. Begun to look better.

Finally using 1500 grit they began to shine when wet. Looking great.

When they dried, they went foggy/hazy so the last step is to apply some plastic polish following the instructions that come with the product. I used Meguire's PlastX but there are many other products to choose from, most notably Novus. Novus is a great product used primarily for the windscreens on airplanes and racing equipment.

Entire process took about 45 minutes per headlight lens.

Picture below:

Re: bright lites

A 10oz bottle of Meguir's PlastX runs about 7 dollars. Sandpaper is cheap...say 50 cents a piece. Round it out, and for 10 dollars you have 2 clear lights, and enough materials to do it again, and again if the need ever arises.

It is important to understand that wetsanding should be a **last resort**. ideally, most hazy fogging should be polished out if possible. Some headlights have a UV coating, and will not react well to the sanding process. In my case the pitting was terrible, and wetsanding was the only option other than complete replacement.

That is an amazing differance! the cleaner is a three step system, the last one being a UV protection and runs around $30. mine are not pitted just dull (kinda white/yellow) I have cleaned them with a plastic cleaner from 3m but it does not last long. I may have to try the novus stuff.
