Hello Guys and Gals,
For those of you who read my other threads, here is an update.
I had a broke bottom end which I replaced with a lower unit off ebay. When I took the boat out, it overheated. I got it shut off before doing damage only to find out I missed the water pump with the tube when I put in the lower. My fault alone. It fired up and ran fine on the muffs for about ten minutes.
Next time out, I took it on the river. I asked for directions from another boater, because I know it is shallow in spots. His directions took me right into a low spot full of rocks. The prop caught up and stopped. The guy who gave me directions (stay far right) went right up the middle. He saw me hung up and just went on by. I gave the air horn a few blasts and he just kept going up river.
After paddling back and getting home, I have removed the lower unit to find that the top of the shaft is broke off.
In short, I now have two broken lower units, but one good one between them. Given the special tools needed, I will have to take it to a marina to get them broke down and rebuilt.
In the spring, I plan to get this fixed as well and replace the floor in the old Gypsy.
So far its been real, but not real fun. I have learned a lot though.
Tony
