Ok, I am getting my boat ready for summer use, added new lower unit oil, got my grease gun out and while adding grease the part that u stick the grease gun on broke off. anybody know the name of that part? Are these things screwed in or are they made on the motor? Hope I have given a good enough description. Thanks for any help.

Grease fitting? Sometimes a press fit, sometimes threaded in.

normally called a grease nipple. where does it sit? (i'm no expert but the only place i can think one sits is the engine mounting/steering cable.)

Re: broke part-need name

I have a Nissan which is very hard to find parts for. I had a grease nip break off, went to Discount Auto Parts, and they had all shapes and sizes, made of brass, and they are like 69 cents, and acutally fit my oddball motor. I did have to purchase a tool from Home Depot that reversed the broken base out of the hole

The fitting you bought will work fine. They're called "zerks" around here.

Re: broke part-need name

Ok, went to the auto store and bought one (of about 20 different kinds). The one that broke on my engine I think was a threaded nipple which I was able to get all the way out. I have a 70 force 93-94 model. There are about 4 places I have to grease and luckily this is the only one that broke so far. Are there differences between a marine grease fitting and one I got from the auto parts store? Again I appreciate evryones help.
