Hay! I have a 1990 Merc V-200. I broke my trim/tilt pressure release screw around where the flathead screwdriver would go so now I dont know if its really getting tight enough. This is the screw that you would release so the trim/tilt would release and you could move the motor up and down by hand. Im looking at a parts page and im not sure what part this would be. Id like to try and repair it over the winter. Was thinking I might as well take it apart and clean it while im at it. Im thinking its this part 812843A VALVE ASSEMBLY, but not sure. thx for any help

Re: Broke the trim/tilt release screw

mercury manual release are not designed to work on torque. they are a solid plug with a series of orings. As you screw the release in and out the orings slide past openings to either block or allow pressure. That is why the threads are coarse. That is why the valve stem is harder to turn under pressure. That is why it takes 2-3 turns to open. That is why you do not need to torque the valve shut. I believe your MRV is made of metal? If it is made of nylon then you want to block your engine and back out the MRV for storage. The nylon ones can absorb water, swell, get jammed into the hole, and break off the tip.

it is made of metal. So what your saying is I didn't need to torque it down so hard and break off the tip . I was worried that water would get into the system if I didn't tighten it enough? Any Idea how big a job this is doesn't seem like it would be to hard once you get the T/T off the motor.

If i remember correctly you should be able to remove the valve assembly(812843A 1) by pulling the clip ring(812844) that holds it in place.

yup, like hall said. there should be a clip that is too big to fit through the hole in transom bracket. take off the clip and you should be able to pull out old one and stick in new.

settle system down onto blocks and it should be easier turn with less oil spewing. It's still an oily mess and you still want a bucket and a rag. I always drape a rag over the MRV when backing completely out of system.

So it sounds like it wouldn't need to remove the entire trim/tilt mechanism, just prop it up and remove it. Ill give it a try and hope it doesn't go everywhere  Thx guys.. Thought id make sure before I order the part, that the valve assembly is what controls the (release) pressure of the t/t and that is what broke. Im sure it is or you guys would of told me.:peace:
