Broken cavitation plate

The motor is a 1988 115 Yamaha. I have had saltwater corrosion issues with it before, the lower gear housing cracked in 2 different spots, but were successfully welded. My problem now is the most of the cavitation plate has broken off. It had a hydrofoil on it and still has the forward holes in place. I am wondering if I should get a new hydrofoil and reinstall, or put a new lower casing on. Someone told me that it would cost over $1000 for a new/used casing. The motor is only worth $750 or so. Anyone have any other ideas?

Re: Broken cavitation plate

Common problem when using the hydrofoil which bolts to the top of the cavitation plate. It is always best to use a plate such as the BOB's Machine shop that bolts underneath to relive the pressure on the plate.

Yeah it came with it so I just kept it on.
Ray, is it big money to switch out the lower housing? If so I'll just bolt on a new hydrofoil (with only 2 bolts) and buy some time until I repower or move up to another boat.
Thanks
