My son was boating with his family a few week ago. He hit a sumerged log with the lower unit. It apparently wedged between the prop and the cavitation plate breaking off one side of the cavitation plate and sheering the drive shaft just below the splined end. I would have thought the prop would have spun on the hub before doing all this damage. It was a brand new prop on it's first outing.
We hopefully would like to remove the splined end, still in crank shaft, without having to tear down the oil reservoir and what else. The motor is a 2008 Yamaha 4stroke 60hp., (2008 60hp model f60 tlr).
We have a new rebuilt lower unit to replace the damaged unit as soon as we can get the splined end removed.
Any help or advice is much appreciated.
