Got a pretty badly broken gimbal housing. In the past I have just replaced the entire transom?but I was wondering what you all thought about the repair kit. I believe the part# is: 18-8311
I've never done one this way, seems like a decent enough alternative. Thanks.

What is your stern drive or transom serial number as there seems to be a difference in bellows part numbers going by serial numbers. Number/s 19.

If you have/use part number 60932A4 then that kit would work. Not sure about the older part number bellows though.

One thing I always wondered about that kit was is it a one time use only and you can't replace the u-joint bellows when the time comes. But looking at a different picture of it now, it looks like you can remove the bellows from the pvc repair ring.

Sierra 18-8311 Gimbal Housing Repair Kit is designed to repair the Mercruiser Alpha one Generation one and TRS transom housing u-joint bellows flange. This innovative product is a benefit to the repair and maintenance of any problem gimbal housing. Each kit includes a new bellows boot with a machined poly vinyl chloride pvc repair ring, fitted to the end. Read and follow instructions for surface preparation and install the replacement bellows with the waterproof epoxy in position and let epoxy cure for at least 24 hours. Complete the assembly and your ready to go. Eliminates a costly gimbal housing replacement
