Broken motor mount coming out through foot of motor? Is this possible?

I have a 200 hp Mercury EFI. I noticed that the prop seemed to be rubbing on something as I spun the prop. I removed the prop to find a steel tube appx 3" long jammed in the foot of the motor. There were also 2 small chunks of aluminum and a washer in there behind it. I took it to my local shop and he thinks that its a motor mount. Is it possible for a motor mount to fall all the way through from the top to get in behind the prop? I thought the lower unit was sealed? Just looking for other opinions as its not going to be cheap to have the power head pulled to check the motor mounts.

I agree, I doubt anything from the powerhead would get into the LU. Do you have a picture?

Those are the pieces I removed from behind the prop. Can anyone identify them? So far its a toss up between motor mount and wrist pin. The only problem with the wrist pin theory is that the motor should be knocking, but it seems to be running smooth.

It's impossible for that to be a motor mount or wrist pin that failed in your motor since you've owned it.

I suspect is that somebodies kid was playing around the motor when daddy had the prop off and shoved that in there. Look's like it could be an old wavy washer and maybe a wrist pin. I suspect the aluminum chunks are from the carrier and broke off when the prop shaft thrust washer jambed up against the other piece.

Thats a wrist pin, piston boss (you can see where c-clip rests) and a wrist pin washer, now how it got there is the mystery....

I like the sound of that being a wrist pin....Because the motor doesn't knock, therefore I feel like I really don't have a problem other than some spare parts. I just bought the boat a week ago so major overhaul really isn't in my budget right now. The previous owner just told me that a couple years ago he had the lower unit replaced with a used one so I'm hoping the spare parts came from someone else's motor. Thanks for the help.

Yeah, I see it now. I didn't figure on it making it through the exhaust chest. It wouldn't suprise me if it just fell into the mid when the engine was being torn down. LOL I bet it drove the prior owner nuts trying to figure out where the wrist pin went!

I've got to put that one in my bench top note book!
