Broken pee hole fitting

1980 35hp. My pee hole was not peeing and I was concerned so I went to remove the hose to see if it was clogged. Of course as soon as I touched it the plastic fitting broke off. I am planning to use an easy-out to remove the remains and if that doesn't work I will drill it progressivly larger up to the threads so I can chase them. Am I doing this correctly or is there an easier way? Blowtorch? Funny thing is as soon as the fitting broke, water shot out strongly and the hose was clear.

An 'easy out' will just expand the remains and make it more difficult.
Heat the cover around and a flat screwdriver will normally get it out.
Buy a tread-tap and clean out the treads after and before installing the new one.

Do you have a rubber hose that connects to the fitting? if so, once you get the old one out try a vacuum lne connector on the rubber hose to act as a new pp hole outlet. may save ya some cash at the boat store.

Do NOT mess with the parts in this system, stay with the original ones. Both the nipple in the exhaust cover, and even more important the nipple in the lower cover.
If you change the flow in the 'pee' system, you change the internal pressure of water in the block and the circulation.
The by-pass spring on the thermostat will open at a higher rpm and engine temp will not be what it is supposed to be.
This 'indicator' is taken out before the water enters the block. The main purpose is not to act as an indicator, but to have water circulating and cooling the exhaust cover even if the thermostat is closed.

Do you mean to heat the plastic so it softens? It is nylon and pretty tough. Or do you mean to heat a screwdriver to squeeze into the hole? Or should I hammer (gently) a screwdriver into the hole to unscrew it?

Heat the cover around, not the plastic!
The treads are 'fine' (NPTF i think to remember) and drilling is a bit risky.
Just push the screwdriver in and try to 'unscrew' the remains.
Do not push it inside!!!

OK, screwdriver just chewed it up. I used a combination of easy outs going from small to large that slowly reamed it out and that did the trick. The last one finally unscrewed it. The left hand rotation passed the chips outward so nothing went inside, and then I chased the threads with a tap. Unfortunatly the shop only had a straight nipple, which hit the motor cover. I found a 90* one at another shop and it fit nicely. It still didn't pass water well so I removed the housing fitting and hose and blew them out with air. Some tiny black stuff came out, and after that it worked well. Now it pees like after 10 beers. Thank's for the help.
