I just picked up a jon boat with a 91 mariner 25 for what I thought was a good deal. After having this thing a month tuning it up I'm starting to doubt my "good deal". First off I don't think the lower unit oil was ever changed the way it looked and the fuel filter and plugs were junked up pretty good also. Then There was no water out of the tell tale and I had to replace the impeller. Now I took it out this past weekend and I think there is something wrong with the prop shaft or bearing. The first time I went to WOT to get on plane it started to pull and then it sounded like the boat went into neutral as it just reved for a min. I backed it off and slowly got up on plane with no problems. I cruised down the lake at 3/4 throttle for 15 min and had no problems and even went wide open for awhile with no slipping. I turned around to come back and went to wide open and it did that thing where it sounded like it just went to neutral and revved the engine. I backed it off and slowly got back on plane again. It only did this twice but it concerns me now. What do you guys thin kit is?? The prop is a refurbished one and seems like the hub didn't spin. I can also put my motor in fwd gear and spin the prop fwd easy but not backwards. I can't spin in while in reverse gear. Maybe my fwd gear is broke?? I'm not sure about this one. Thanks and sorry for the long post.

Also when I spin the prop by hand in fwd gear clockwise it makes a clicking noise. Is this normal? Thanks for any help.

Your drive sounds fine, that is what is supposed to do,

Sounds like you are caviitating (getting air between the prop and the water) Try trimming the engine down, putting more of the prop in the water.

Thanks, I was wondering about that because I have had that happen to my bass boat before while making sharp turns with the motor trimmed up. I was hoping I was just worry to much about this.
