broken reed?

hi everyone quick question. 1990 200gt iwas wondering if there is a to tell if a reed is broken without tearing down . and if you do have to tear down must you do a sync ?

If a reed breaks or leaks excessively the crankcase will pulse air/fuel mix out of the carb throat.
