bob, I guess that would depend on what kind of warranty you got with the motor. If you have something on paper there should be no problems. If not then i would think it will be the marinas call. Have you talked to them about it?
Rich

I doubt if the dealer is gonna say it's his fault. Take a real close look at the piston and see if the pins are still in the ring grooves. If they are, you might convince the dealer he broke the ring installing it. If he's a decent kinda guy, he might half the cost with ya.

g'luck & c/6

Hooty

yea ,today i talked to them .there trying to tell me the timing caused the hole ,they haven,t seen the motor yet.there are no burn marks anywhere on that motor.plus you can see part of the ring in no.4 ,plus on no.2 a part of the ring must have got caught in the exhaust side hole because you can see where it clipped the piston on the top .the marks are made when the piston was going back in the hole .the marks are pushed out .no pushed in the piston. and i do have a receipt.it doesn,t say anything about a warr.i did pay 1600 for the motor ,i did the labor.

when the dealer thought it was the timing, that burned a hole in the piston he was going to charge me 150 for the piston 20 for gaskets ,and 250 labor .if was the timing i had no problem paying that .but it was not ,it was a broken ring ,. but i,ll probably end up paying it anyway

Force is pretty famous for braking rings.. most of the time there isn't any noticable damage to anything else.. I have torn them down that were running way rich.. and everything was good and wet and still had rings broken on 3 out of 4 cylinders... sounds like he's trying to give you a brake to me....
