Broken Starter Mount Ears

I just found out that the "ears" from the power head lower housing that mount the starter are both broken off. This not the loose starter bracket but the one fixed to teh engine block lower section.
Is there any kind of fix for this that anyone has used to repair these?
Can they be welded? can I fabricate a reinforcing bracket?
Or am I in trouble.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Oddly enough I was looking at those on my 50hp recently thinking what the heck would I do if those ever broke. Surely a talented aluminum welder could fix those, but it takes one with talent. Otherwise, depending on where they broke, maybe you can gring a flat spot and drill and tap the piece to insert a screw. Either way, not a good situation.

Thanks for the response.
Has anyone successfully repaired these tabs? Even long term I don't see the lower motor housing being available. I am probably going to try and see if I can fab up a couple of brackets to carry the load and somehow bolt them into the remaining web section. I could really use some additional thoughts if anyone has run into this before.

Re: Broken Starter Mount Ears

I asked the local mercury marine dealer if they could fix it and they said no but recommended a local welder who specializes in marine welding. I took the boat there last night and he was able to weld the ears back on with the engine all assembled. He did an awesome job and the starter fits and works better than ever. I am elated!!!
If anyone has this kind of problem I would ask your local dealer if they know of someone in their area.

Hey. Any chance you can share the welder contact info. I have the same problem and am looking for someone who understands what needs to be done. I'm about an hour from New Hope. Also $$?? Thanks.
