Today i got towed from elliot key to the marina because the starter looked like the tooth's were gone but when i got home ready to take the starter out discovered that it was loose, i was happy for like a minute when i recovered one of the screws from the bilge and ------ broken the thread still inside the engine, onli like one thread remains in the screw. Does anybody had a similar problem and removed the thread successfully without removing the engine.

Please help!!!!!

Re: Broken starter screw

Yep. Been there. Not sure which of the bolts broke, but one is really hard to reach. A good mechanic can get in there with a 90 degree drill. A drill guide bushing can help, as it is an awkward position. Drill it small to start, 1/8 inch should do it. Then it can be removed with an easy out. It should be loose since the load of the starter is gone.

And a set of left hand drill bits works great if you can get it on the bolt.
