Guys,

Steering cable just broke on my last ride not sure what is going on. I'll drive still turns back-and-forth and trim works OK but broken cable here in pic. Any idea what it is and how I can fix it?

I just noticed I can't attach my pictures as they are too large for mobile. Will send pics in next post.

Is the steering working except for the cable hitting the radio?

Did you find a plastic tube laying on the floor? Stick it back in the black grommet over the cable.

Do something with the red wire and bare end behind the cable, too. It looks like the cable may have torn that loose from something, maybe the lighter/accessory plug.

Hi,

Yes steering is working except for the cable hitting what on earth does that do? Of course the bottom one is fine but the top one broke I still have that plastic tube.

The plastic tube is called a spent travel tube. The purpose is to contain the metal cable as it exits the rotary helm so it doesn't hit things like radios and wiring.

Do what I said in post #4. Put a tie wrap on the black grommet if it wants to fall off again.

Thanks everyone! Luckily my marina had a spent tube. $10 fix. Glad it wasn't something more severe! Scared the crap out of me when it happened :). Yes the red wire is for my cigarette lighter. Have to get a new connector to help it stick. Keeps falling out.
