Re: Broken transducer cable

What I usually do is to solder the inner strand. Then strip back the outer insulator farthest, followed by the sheilding, followed by the inner insulator. tape up the inner solder joint. Then pull the shielding together(leave yourself enough) and solder them. wrap this one with some tin foil just to be sure, then cover it all in some tape.<br />always worked for me...<br />Craig

Re: Broken transducer cable

Make sure you use a good quality electrical tape like 3m Scotch 33. Cheap electrical tape will not last long in the water. A little silicone on the final connection before the taping works to keep the water out as well.

Re: Broken transducer cable

'Went to the river and checked the dang thing out.....no success.....the cable break at the transducer was just not physically repairable.....<br /><br />I did assure that power was getting to the transducer.....stick your tongue to the center conductor and it shocks the **** out of you....<br /><br />I found an old Humminbird transducer, cut cables to match the length, and attached it....I can now hear the Humminbird click so maybe I have a fix...<br /><br />In the meantime, I'll search for a real replacement....<br /><br />Next question......Is any Lowrance transducer with a grey connector a replacement????<br /><br />Thanks....

Re: Broken transducer cable

By the looks of my transducer cable, it looks like a co-axial cable. This means that the cable is designed to have certain sheilding and impedance characteristics. Any change to the physical dimensions, such as a kink, squat, or overtightened ty-rap can effect its performance. I would only try to repair when in dire straights in the field. Replace the cable. Also, moisture inside the cable can corrode it inside the sheath, and of course, you will only find out about it when you need it most!

Re: Broken transducer cable

Latest and Last report on this subject.<br /><br />I spliced in an old Humminbird transducer....I soldered the center conductors then put some hot melt glue around it...Then I spliced the outer conductor and soldered it....then taped the whole mess.........<br /><br />'It finds the bottom satisfactorily.....But I'm still not happy.....It could be the patch job or it could be the old Humminbird transducer.....<br /><br />Now seeking a replacement transducer but I have something to suffice until I get one....

Re: Broken transducer cable

to repair tranducer cable get apoxie kit 5min dry also go to electronic supply house get small heat-srinck that just slide on the center wire then the same on the outside cable.with the heat srink on the center cable sorder center cable. mix the apoxie apply over the sordered connection slide the srink over the connection take your iron heat the scrink untill the apoxie comes out each end.repeat on the out cable make the scrink about 1/2 inch longer on each end of the repard area.this will not allow any water into repared cable.
