Broken Wire

I have a 1977 Merc 70hp, rebuilt the impeller system, dug pieces of old impeller out of cooling channels so now the motor is not overheating, now found a broken wire. The motor runs good without this wire hooked up but I want to know what it goes to. It is labeled White/Black on the main wire terminal. I am going to launch my 69 MFG today unless one of you guys tell me that it is a bad idea with this wire severed. I would have to pull the flyweel to see where the wire goes, into a white plastic piece under the flywheel. I have pictures but not sure if I can post them. Can anyone help me out?

Re: Broken Wire

I don't know enough to tell you exactly what wire that is, and don't want to alarm you, but you may want to be careful. I think that everything going under the flywheel is either stator or trigger related. The trigger tells your cylinders when to fire and the stator creates the electricity that get fired.

However, I don't know what happens if one of those things isn't happening correctly - it could just run rough with no power, or it could spark and cause a fire!

Why not fix it or at least reconnect the ends?

Try a few searches on those two topics and you may find what you need to know.
