Well everthing is either sandblasted or sanded and etched everywhere. Hopefully ready for the "Vinyl Etching Interlux" self etching primer this evening. I re-read the instructions on the can and it says "don't put it over paint." The hull is only 10% bare metal. Does anyone have any experience whether this primer attacks the underlying paint or lifts off old paint. I will not strip the whole hull just to meet these guidlines.
Secondly, while it says it was shipped, I can't find the "brushing thinner" for my Brightside enamel. Does this paint lay out OK without it?
The primer says I've got 24 hours to paint it before I have to scuff it and reprime. I really don't want to delay this project a week while I wait for more thinner to be shipped.
Thanks,
Mike

Re: Brushing Interlux

Jim Anderson has a brilliant little book called Runabout Restoration ...

He says follow directions TO THE LETTER, no substitutions .. these systems are chemically balanced and build upon one another

as far as that bare metal thing, I dont know, but djohn did a lot of painting, he would be the one to ask!

Re: Brushing Interlux

Hi Ray,
Thanks for the reply. I've found a source of the 333 brushing thinner in town so I can proceed shortly. As I said, the primer is going on. I'm just going to have to roll the dice and see what happens. I've chemically stripped my old Chevelle once and it is no fun. Unless someone shouts STOP, do this instead, it is happening. I've got a bit of experience with cars using circa 1980 paint systems and I know you have to watch your paint systems. Today's automotive paints are again a whole new breed and all the paint systems I once knew are history.
Mike
