Buccaneer disassembly questions

Hey there! I think the motor is have is either a ‘55 or ‘56 Buccaneer and I’m trying to take it apart to clean everything and get everything working, but also to convert it to being an electric motor. For that I’d obviously need to get to the drive shaft and I’m struggling to disconnect the engine block from the rest and also talking off what I assume is the alternator. Large disc shape on top that connects to the pull start and the spark plugs. If anyone has anything that can help as far as disassembly or has an idea if people on here would want the spare parts, just let me know! Thanks very much and I look forward to chatting!

Also, the picture I uploaded is what I thought was the alternator and I did take off the screws shown in the picture but it still seems quite stuck on the shaft.

There is no alternator on this motor.----Use a puller with 3 bolts 1/4-20NC to pull the FLYWHEEL.----The 3 bolt holes around the crankshaft are to be used.

I went and got a puller today and it worked perfectly! Had to get longer bolts too, but what good project doesn’t require multiple trips to the hardware store… haha

After I got the flywheel off I got to the part below it (which I won’t try and name for fear of being wrong twice haha) and now I’m wondering if I should use the same puller on that, or if there’s a different method on this guy. I’ve tried to look at what it’s connected to, but anything I can see seems to require this part coming off first. I’ll leave a picture and if you need more, just let me know and I can take more. Thanks again!

A linkage / couple of wires.-----Just 4 screws nearest to crankshaft and the magneto plate lifts off

Perfect! Last night I got that and the rest of the engine off. Now I have the drive shaft exposed which is awesome news for me since I’m such a novice when it comes to engines! Haha my next goal is to figure out the specs of that shaft so I can figure out a way to adapt it to accept input from an electric motor which would likely have to be at a 90 degree angle compared to the original crankshaft. Do you know the specs of the driveshaft gear-end? I hope I’m saying that correctly. I know it’s a 14-tooth, but I’m not sure what other data is relevant in looking up a gear to put on it. My thought is that it would need to have something added to it to interface with an electric motor at 90 degrees to the shaft and I’ve seen a few examples, but I’m wondering if that seems like a total custom thing or if I might get lucky and the shaft is some kind of standard where I might be able to find a part to fit it. Any thoughts you have on that are greatly appreciated as well!

Why at 90 degrees ?? Many videos on electric conversions where they mate the electric motor directly to the drive shaft, why make more work ?

I would love to just go straight to the shaft, but I’ve been struggling to find motors that would fit that way. If you have any suggestions on where to find those, I’d love to know! The ones I found so far have been closer to 3hp and would fit between the shaft and the front or back, but not necessarily above the shaft without hitting the top of the cowl.

If you can mount the motor and line it up to the shaft securely then the cowl is the least of your worries. Just cut a hole and build it to fit..

The cowl may not workvas it might get hot, in the dyi videos, many had heat issues, so the cowl will need venting anyway

Thanks for the info and suggestions! If anyone finds any info on good motors in the 15-25hp range that might work, I’d definitely appreciate being pointed in the right direction. I’ll keep looking as well, but so far everything I’ve seen at 5+ Hp end up being huge or weigh way too much to make it make sense. Haha
