Buffing the old boat

I purchased an 86 four winns boat and it was quite highly oxidized it had been sitting for the past 5 years untouched. I started buffing with 3M perfect it and a low speed buffer. It came out real nice and shiny. I found part way through that Turtle wax rubbing compound works just as well for a fraction of the cost. Now that I'm done many, many hours later, but well worth it the boat shines beautifully. I've given it a good waxing with a leading car wax. My question is how long can I expect this shine to last? I know every boat is different but do you think this is a yearly project of will a coat of wax in the future be enough? Also would 3 or 4 coats of wax be worth the extra effort. I'll kick back with a cold one and analyze your educated responses. Thanks ahead of time and happy boating.

I'd try to wax 2-3 times/year. That'll protect your hard work, but you'll have to buff it out again eventually.

I asked a couple differant boat detailers, and unless you are in Salt water, once you get it shiney, to wax it once more a month later, then every 6 months. If in salt they recommended once every 3-4 months. I plan to do mine every 3 months since I do mixed boating, salt and fresh.
