I have a 19'8" Maxum boat I have chosen to start a center console project. To date this will be the most radical change I have made and I am looking for some structural and proceedural advise.
I have started a webpage and pictures here
http://19maxumproject.webs.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=12099540

After looking it over many time I think the answer is to remove the top cap (Whats left of the liner) at the rub rail line and build a rolled gunwale boat.
The two main questions are 1 How to build a Rolled Gunwale. And 2. Will I need to add structural ribs up the insides of the hull?
if anyone knows ref to this info please post

Thanks Chuck

The top cap provides much of the lateral support to the boat. So to remodel this boat to a rolled gunwale boat you will have to somehow transfer that load with stiffeners along the sides.

Are you planning on building a casting deck up front, or a poleing platform in the rear??? Both of those structures could definitely help with your lateral support, or more precisely the tendancy of the hull to "spread" once the cap is removed. There are several methods for maintaining the width of the hull while the cap is off, but something would have to take up the load once you went with the center console idea.

Definately going with a raised deck up front. Maybe 14" below the rub rail level. In the back Im keeping the motor well and building corner lockers so its strait across. But middle of the boat Im not sure how to stiffen it?
