Building back to back bench seat

I have a 1963 Glasspar 14ft runabout and was thinking of replacing the two back to back seats with a back to back bench. It would give a bit more seating room and storage room under it especially for the fuel tank that presently sits on the floor in front of the slash well, also it would move some weight forward. The two seats presently sit on glassed in boxes that appear to be factory. Would there be a problem removing these to build a wooden box and has anyone done a project like this and maybe have some tips?
Thanks,
Bill

Sounds like a good idea to me. There shouldn't be a problem removing the glassed in seat bases, but I would advise you to glass the deck back over once they're cut out if there is any unglassed wood exposed on the deck. Good luck.
